1 – L1 – Layout Definition

When you’ve been through the Morphological Analysis to establish how to perform each function, and selected a Final Concept you will have identified which design you’re to take forward, but before you justify it you might want to take some time to consider layouts.  Figure 1 shows a different type of Morphological Analysis that considers layouts.  There are four functions identified in this example; an engine; driven wheels; not driven wheels and an operator.  This is simply rearranging these functions to try and establish the best order to place things.  The drawings do not have to be perfect, and you could simply use a flow chart method and block diagrams to represent the functions; however this will help you to get a final idea of which concept will be developed before you move onto the final stage.

This is not yet your final design, simply arranging your chosen concept.
